Introduction
DISS, the digital scan and acquisition system of point electronic GmbH uses the TIF format for saving the acquired data. For the main SEM parameter, a private TIF tag was introduced, which is for backward compatibility reasons still used for important metadata (TIFF tag 0xFFF1 = 65521).
DISS TIFF images, which contain original SEM data, are stored in single- or multipage format with 8- or 16-bit greyscale values. They are compatible to Adobe TIFF 6.0 specification.
Starting with DISS version 5, all meta data are stored additionally in the standard XMP section of the TIFF data (TIFF tag 0x2BC0 = 700). For preserving the complete set of metadata, we recommend reading and writing all existing entries.
Depending on the applied hardware, different namespaces are used for the DISS specific meta data. XMP handling and entries are compatible to the XMP ISO standard.
