Image metadata contains critical contextual information about the file, not only information about the microscope settings at the time of acquisition, but also information about the software that was used to save it, user information and copyright, as well as custom information input at the time of acquisition. point electronic GmbH writes XMP metadata into TIF and JPEG file, see DISS metadata, whereas other manufactures may use separate text files that accompany the image file. DISS metadata is generally supported by all point electronic GmbH apps, with limited third-party formats also supported in the offline apps for image processing and calibration.
